    Stress and Websites

Friday, May 30, 2008, 09:23 AM EST [General]

So lately I've been totally stressed out with my daughter the teenager and my job, which may or may not exist come July (about which I am somewhat ambivilant because while I need money to eat and such, I really hate my job) and about a month ago Motorcitypagans.net started acting up. With all else that was going on, the last thing I wanted to do was fiddle with the website! It seems my host made some changes to various things in order to improve security. I didn't really understand the connection between that and what was going on with the website, so I fiddled in places I didn't need to be fiddling and broke it even more.

Finally, I freaked out, deleted the whole damn thing and started from scratch. Only then did I realize that the security measures they'd taken was interfering with my software. So I wrote them a rather terse email, to which they cheerfully replied "Oh, we're sorry, we'll take that right off your account right away" and they did. And my head is still bruised from banging it against my kitchen table. So I decided since I was starting over from scratch anyway that I would experiment with some different software options. I figured I had till the next newsletter was due out, which is June 1, so had some time to play. And play I did. In the end I decided I liked Joomla! much better than Drupal and decided to use that. Memorial day weekend was a weekend of code (with a brief break for a fish fry with the family) and lo, come Tuesday, Motorcitypagans.net lived again.

Okay. SO there were a few bugs. There are probably still a few bugs. But there it is. And everybody should check it out beacause I'm really proud of it.

Unfortunately, my best beloved is gigging like crazy lately, an average of three nights a week, in two different bands so that's at least two rehearsals a week, so he hasn't been able to do the graphic work I need from him. So it's not 100% done. But it's functional and any changes I make when he's got a moment will be cosmetic.

    My Book

Monday, September 24, 2007, 10:15 AM EST [General]

Last night I sent my first book to the publisher. I got notification from them on Thursday that they wanted to see it. They liked my proposal. That's good. But I don't think they'll like the book. I'm not done with it. It needs more work. I didn't expect them to get back to me so quickly . I had planned to work on it over the weekend, but I got a prednisone injection for my crazy poison ivy and I spent the weekend trying not to kill people. Then, of course, it's the Equinox so I had a house full of people on Sunday and I was babysitting my mom's new puppy and my dog was acting like a total butt. Oi. So, yea. Off to the publisher it went. We'll see how that goes.

    Oh well.

I honestly think I'd rather self-publish anyway. I know it's harder, but there's something about it I can't explain that I just prefer. Maybe I'm just a control freak.
